Abbie North
Abbie began dancing at S & R Dance at the age of 3. She became a member of the S & R Competitive Dance Team at the age of 5. This will be her 14th year as part of the S & R Competitive Program under the direction of former owner, Mary Berryhill and current owner, Nikki Spinden-Meagher. Abbie has competed with competitive numbers in Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Clogging, and Contemporary styles in solo, duet, small group, large group and production categories. She has attended yearly Dance Conventions and several Master Classes over the years. Abbie was honored to be named S & R's 2009 Dancer of the Year. She has studied at the Edge Performing Arts Center and The Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles, CA. Abbie also danced with Studio 121 in Freeport, IL, under the direction of Jill Johnson, Marie Arts, Marsha Biehl and Sarah Long from 1995 to 2007. At Studio 121, she took Ballet and Modern dance classes. She has participated in many performances including studio recitals, The Nutcracker, and Art for Life with Studio 121.
Abbie became an assistant teacher for S & R Dance in September of 2004. She has assisted Tiny Tots, Creative Movement, Dance, Tap, Jazz, and Hip Hop classes. In May of 2008, she completed a year of teaching apprenticeship with Nikki Spinden-Meagher at S & R. She will begin her 2nd year of teaching for S & R Dance this fall. She is now currently teaching Hip Hop, Jazz, and Tap, Parent-Child classes and Private Lessons. She has choreographed many dances for Faith United Methodist Church, Freeport High School, and S & R Dance. She can’t wait to begin this new dance year.
Abbie is currently attending Highland Community College. She is pursuing a career in the medical field. She will continue to share her love and passion for dancing and teaching for many years to come.
